Strengthening a Cracked Tooth

Strengthening a Cracked ToothHaving a cracked tooth can be quite painful. It can start to ache or throb, and the pain may worsen when you bite down on something. Teeth can become cracked as a result of injury or severe damage. Yet, once they are cracked, they are vulnerable to further damage. Our team may recommend having a crown placed over the tooth to hold the cracked pieces together and to protect the tooth’s overall structure.

We continue to use Same day crowns to provide you with a fast, effective restoration. After numbing the tooth and surrounding area, we will then remove any decayed tissue and shape the tooth. A root canal treatment may be needed if the pulp of the tooth has been severely damaged. Once the tooth is shaped, we use a small hand-held scanner to take a digital impression of the tooth. Our dentist uses digital impressions along with our high-tech software to create a 3D model of the tooth and to design the new crown. The crown is milled right in our office, and as soon as it is ready, we can bond it into place. There is no need for multiple visits, so you can leave with your new crown in place and ready to use the same day.

With a crown over your damaged tooth, the tooth will be restored to its full function and appearance. The porcelain of the crown will help strengthen the tooth’s structure and prevent the tooth from cracking further. Call us today to find out more or to schedule your appointment with our team.
